Celebrate Winter Solstice 2026

Winter Solstice Events in WA This Weekend — Celebrate the Longest Night.

The winter solstice falls on Sunday 21 June at 4:24pm — the shortest day of the year, and a moment cultures around the world have marked for thousands of years. It’s a turning point: from here, the light slowly returns.

If you’ve been feeling the pull to slow down, gather with others, or simply mark this seasonal shift with intention, there is no shortage of ways to do that in WA this weekend. From free coastal festivals and fire ceremonies to sound healing by the ocean, here’s what’s on.

Winter Solstice Meditation, Havan & Dinner — Kookaburra Yoga, Bedfordale

When: Saturday 20 June | 5pm–8pm Where: 210 Carradine Road, Bedfordale WA 6112 (Perth Hills) Cost: $30–$50 sliding scale (includes mulled wine, dinner and cacao). Members free. Children welcome at no charge.

If you’re looking for something quieter and more inward, this is it. Set in the Perth Hills, Kookaburra Yoga is hosting an evening of meditation, mantra chanting and a sacred Havan fire ceremony on the eve of the solstice.

The evening begins with non-alcoholic mulled spiced wine at 5pm, moving into solstice meditation at 5:30pm and the Havan fire ceremony at 6:15pm — centred around the ancient Upanishadic peace prayer Asato Ma Sad Gamaya (“Lead me from darkness to light”). A community dinner of homemade soup and bread follows at 7pm, with cacao and conversation around the fire to close.

Hosted by Mandy from Kookaburra Yoga, this is a grounded, meaningful way to mark the longest night. Rug up — the ceremony is outdoors (moved inside if it rains).

Esperance Stonehenge — Solstice Sunset & Tarot Readings

When: Sunday 21 June | Open 4pm–6pm for Winter Solstice Where: 817 Merivale Road, Esperance WA 6450 Cost: $20 per person (solstice entry)

This one is for those willing to make the journey — or those who are already in Esperance. The Esperance Stonehenge is the only full-size replica of the original Stonehenge in the UK, built using 137 locally quarried Esperance pink granite stones. It was designed to align with the solstices: on the evening of the winter solstice, the setting sun aligns with the Heel Stones and shines through to the Altar Stone — a genuinely remarkable sight.

Special solstice weekend activities include Tarot Readings and extended opening hours from 4–6pm to catch the alignment at sunset.

If you can’t make the trip this weekend, the Stonehenge is open daily during winter from 9am–1pm ($15 adults, $6 children 6–16).

A Note on the Winter Solstice

The solstice falls at 4:24pm on Sunday 21 June in Perth. From this moment, the days gradually lengthen. It’s not the coldest day of the year (July holds that title in WA), but it is the turning point — the moment the light begins to return.

Whether you spend it by fire, by ocean, in stillness or in community, it’s a genuinely meaningful threshold to mark.

Happy solstice, WA.
